Merry Christmas!

High Valley Winter,  9" x 12" Oil on Canvas Panel
Can't let Christmas Day pass without wishing everyone a merry Christmas!

The painting shown above was done last winter in a high mountain valley in the Wasatch Mountains. When the snow flies and some think of getting away to warmer climes, I head up into the high mountain valleys for some wonderful opportunities to paint snow scenes. I love snow painting!

This is a wonderful scene James!

You have my eye walking down the isle, I slide into a church pew and join in singing, Oh come all ye faithful! The trees and bushes with there branches raised to the sky!
A spiritual painting indeed.

Thanks Bill. Glad you like the painting! Maybe I should start working on something for next Christmas!

Nice painting James. I like the way you captured the fine branches at the tops of the trees. People often struggle painting the greens in foliage but I think it can be even more challenging to capture the effect of bare branches.

Happy new year!

Thanks, Scott. The contrast between the tall trees (cottonwoods?) and the little willows are what attracted my attention to this scene.

There's not enough snow around here for this kind of snow painting yet this season. Hopefully that will change in January and February!
